How many of you remember the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee? I was just a kid, but I went. I got a really cool shirt with a flaming red thing in the middle and black sleeves.
The fair was formally known as the Knoxville International Energy Exposition. The theme was "Energy Turns the World." It obviously opened in 1982 and took place between May 1 and October 31. Of course the giant globe, that is called the Sunsphere, is still open for tours today. Last I checked, there was even a bar inside of it.
During the short time the fair was open, it brought in a crowd over 11-million. Participating nations included Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, and West Germany.
Do you have any fond memories of the fair?
