I went by Hippie Hill today and donated a huge box of t-shirts that stated on the back "Love the Land," thanks to my neighbor Troy Lucht. I just have to say, they LOVED the shirts. Thank you Troy, they sincerely appreciated the gift.
I always enjoy visiting Hippie Hill. Going to the hill is like stepping back into a calmer, slower paced time. It is exactly like what I would envision a Hippie camp to be like in the late 60's or early 70's.
This is a photo of Melissa who stays on the hill from time to time. She told me that she truly enjoys the relaxed lifestyle. I liked her star tattoos on her hand too, pretty cool.
The late Janis Joplin famously stated, "Guess what, I might be the first hippie pinup girl." Joplin, who died of a drug overdose, was famous for her vocals that had a touch of blues in every song she sang. Her crackly voice was always a hit. She died at the young age of 27. Joplin was (and still is after her death) an inspiration to numerous other female vocalist.
My favorite song that Joplin sang was Mercedes:
"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz"
"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV"
"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town
I'm counting on you, Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town"
"Everybody!
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz"
